A fast food firm was fined after fire officers discovered one of their shops put their employees in serious danger.

According to nottinghampost.com, the premises, Maryland Chicken in Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham did not have fire alarms of any kind installed. In addition, the fire escape routes were not protected from smoke or fire – which could put the shop’s staff in real danger should a fire have broken out.

The owners, LFF Limited, pleaded guilty to six offences and must pay a fine of £14,979.50.

Fire officers take cases where businesses have failed to protect their staff very seriously. Just recently another establishment was fined in Cheshire for similar offences. The landlord of the Rams Head Inn in Grappenhall had failed to check the pub’s fire alarms properly, did not have the equipment needed to fight a fire, did not train his staff properly about fire procedures and failed to conduct a fire risk assessment review, reports thisischeshire.co.uk.

Fire protection group manager, Vic McMillen, explained that all businesses need to take fire safety legislation seriously.

“We are here to provide advice and support to local businesses and are always willing to help to make sure they comply with the fire safety legislation,” she said. “However, the public should continue to be reassured we take breaches of fire safety seriously and use legal sanctions when necessary.”
